Jason Baruch is a founding partner of Sendroff & Baruch, LLP, an entertainment law firm located in Times Square that Jason formed in 2007 with law partner Mark Sendroff, and co-chair of the Theater and Performing Arts committee of the Entertainment, Arts, Sports Law (EASL) section of the New York State Bar Association.  

He is production counsel for musicals and plays on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and around the country and the world, and also represents some of the most dynamic regional theaters in the country.

In addition to producers, Jason and his firm are legal counsel to a large roster of award-winning dramatists, directors and choreographers, designers, performers, orchestrators and arrangers, and music directors and supervisors.  

Every year since 2012, Jason has been chosen as a SuperLawyer® and in 2020 and again in 2023 was selected as the only entertainment lawyer on the “Top 100” Super Lawyer® in the United States, and he is named regularly on the list of Best Lawyers in New York City in Best Lawyers® magazine (where he was selected by his peers “Lawyer of the Year” for 2023, an honor awarded to a single attorney in a practice area) and in the Chambers® USA directory of top attorneys.

Jason Baruch represents clients in all areas of the entertainment industry.

Jason has served as production counsel for stage productions in New York and around the world, including musicals like The Great Gatsby, Illinoise, Buena Vista Social Club, Spamalot, Into the Woods, A Strange Loop, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Band’s Visit, The Cher Show, SpongeBob Squarepants, Rock of Ages, and The Producers, and plays like Othello, Good Night Oscar, Network, Burn This, Lifespan of a Fact, Present Laughter, An Act of God, and Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winners Clybourne Park and I am My Own Wife. He also represents outside-the-box immersive productions such as Life & Trust.

Jason has served as legal counsel to some of the most innovative and exciting regional theaters including, in New York City, The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Second Stage, Ars Nova, Naked Angels and La Mama, and, around the country, Signature Theater (Arlington, VA), Berkeley Rep, Kansas City Rep, Shakespeare Theater Company, The Fisher Center at Bard, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In addition to commercial producers and theater companies, Jason and his firm are legal counsel to a long list of award-winning dramatists, directors and choreographers, designers, performers, orchestrators and arrangers. Clients of Sendroff & Baruch, LLP are involved in most of the shows on Broadway.

In addition to theater, Jason represents companies and individuals in the music industry, including recording artists and music publishers, as well as play licensing companies and fiction and non-fiction authors. He also renders film and television production services and represents producers, writers, actors and other talent in the film and television industry.

Jason is a co-chair of the Theater and Performing Arts committee of the Entertainment, Arts, Sports Law (EASL) section of the New York State Bar Association. He serves on various boards of directors and advisory boards. He has taught for more than two decades at the Commercial Theater Institute (CTI) and wrote a chapter in CTI’s book called “The Commercial Theater Institute Guide to Producing Plays and Musicals.” He also organizes and participates regularly in panels and lectures on the subject of theater law.

Jason clerked for The Honorable Ruggero J. Aldisert of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is admitted to the bars in both the States of California (1994) and New York (1993).  He founded Sendroff & Baruch, LLP in 2007 with law partner Mark Sendroff. November 8, 2024 - Jason spoke on a panel with general manager Carl Pasbjerg of Alchemy Productions and certified public accountant Robert Fried of Withum+ about the roles of the accountants, lawyers, and general managers in commercial stage productions, in a 3-day program organized by the Commercial Theater Institute.

October 31, 2024 -  Jason organized a panel discussion for the NYSBA EASL Fall 2-day program about not-for-profit and commercial theater financing with fellow theater counsel Doug Nevin of Klaris Law and general manager Danielle Karliner Naish of RCI.

March 6, 2024 – Jason spoke at a panel on generative artificial intelligence and its impact on the theater industry, along with fellow attorneys Carrie Casselman and Fillip Kofman of Davis Wright Tremaine LLC, and agent Patrick Herold of United Talent Agency.

September 19, 2024 – Jason taught a class on the legal aspects of U.S. commercial theater producing to UK producers under the auspices of a joint program between Stage One in the UK and Columbia University in NYC, organized by Columbia faculty member Steven Chaikelson and accountant Robert Fried at Withum+’
